The Write Group is a writer’s support group comprised of both men and women, now in our 17th year! Every month the Write Group holds about thirty free writing events—yes, 30!—supplemented by other happenings of interest for writers. We welcome visitors and new members. No fee to join.
Meetings are in the Conference Room at the Montclair Public Library at 50 S. Fullerton Avenue, unless otherwise noted. All events are “drop in” unless otherwise noted; check the Update about expressing interest to get involved. Folks go to those events that are convenient to them and support their writing, including:
Support Group core meeting every Tuesday morning at 10:15-11:30 am to review our writing progress & discuss writing topics, followed by chit-chat in the Library’s Montclair Bread Company Café;
Memoir Groups for those seriously writing memoir, Groups 1 & 2 meet alternating Wednesdays from 10-12 … not a drop-in group;
Novelist Groups meets every Thursday morning from 10 am-1:30 pm and Friday from 10 am-12:30 … not a drop-in group;
Free-for-All writing events on different writing topics every Thursday evening, 7-8:30 pm;
Free Write creative writing workshops – write to prompts every Saturday morning from 10:15am-1:00pm; plus once a month we do Free Write on a Monday at the Fine Grind Café in Little Falls, check the Update for details;
Short Story/Essay Group meets 1st and 3rd Tuesday every month at Harriet Halpern’s, across the street from the Library, to read and get feedback on short prose pieces;
Write Group Showcase: Readings by the Write Group followed by an Open Mic every month on varying weekday evenings or weekend afternoons.
